Belotero Q&A
-
Belotero is a hyaluronic acid gel particle-based filler which has a special niche in the current fillers available on the market. A soft, elastic, smaller-particle hyaluronic acid gel, Belotero is often used for treating static fine lines around the mouth and lips.
-
The particle size of Belotero is smaller as compared to most other hyaluronic acid fillers, which results in a thinner, softer gel particle-based filler that is mostly injected superficially to treat fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, there is no risk of the blue hue (tindel effect) that can be seen when other hyaluronic acid fillers are injected too superficially.
-
Although it is FDA approved for use only in the perioral lines (lip lines and smile lines around the mouth) and lip augmentation, Belotero can also be used off-label to correct other fine lines and wrinkles such as forehead lines and crow’s feet. Botox is often injected at the same time in these areas to relax the muscles of facial expression, so that fine lines are not continually reinforced after treatment with Belotero.
-
Belotero is gradually broken down in the skin over an average of 6-12 months, although individual results may vary.
-
Belotero is pre-mixed with lidocaine to make the injection experience more comfortable. Additionally, ice packs, vibration devices, and prescription-strength numbing cream significantly decrease discomfort. Hyaluronic acid fillers have an excellent safety record in the hands of experienced, well-trained physicians. Most commonly, temporary mild swelling and bruising can occur. Consider reviewing our pre-treatment tips for precautions to minimize bruising prior to your treatment. A benefit of using hyaluronic acid-based fillers is the availability of hyaluronidase (an anecdote, essentially), which can be injected into the skin and immediately breaks down the product.
