Melanage/Melanage Mini Peel Q&A
-
The Melanage skin lightening peel works on all skin types, including melanin-rich skin. It is truly a breakthrough for the treatment of hyperpigmentation including melasma, but also improves fine lines, skin tone, and texture.
-
A customized sheer liquid Melanage Masque is applied to your skin in the office. You will leave the office with this masque on your face. The masque will stay on for 5 to 10 hours depending on your skin type (for a Mini peel the masque stays on for 2 to 4 hours). There is no discomfort and no numbing is required. You will be given instructions and all the products needed for you to follow the recommended after-care regimen at home. The home regimen is designed to be followed for at least 1 month and up to 3 months before transitioning to a melasma maintenance regimen.
-
Results vary per patient but the majority will see a significant improvement in the appearance of melasma and other areas of undesired pigmentation within 3 months of a Melanage Peel. Hyperpigmentation will lighten and skin texture and tone will improve.
-
Most patients experience some degree of peeling and/or flaking skin. However, if your skin does not peel, do not worry! You are still getting all of the benefits of the peel which includes stimulation of collagen and elastin, improvement in pigmentation and texture, and reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
-
Most patients will see visible reduction in pigmentation after one or two Melanage Skin Lightening peels. The full Melanage peel can be repeated every 5-6 months as needed to maintain results. The Melanage Mini Skin Brightening peel is less aggressive and can be performed one month apart. A series of 3-4 Mini treatments is generally recommended for results comparable to the full strength peel.
