RHA Collection Q&A
-
The Juvederm and Restylane families of fillers are well known hyaluronic fillers used to smooth, plump and reshape areas of the face where volume loss has occurred. A new family of hyaluronic acid fillers by Revance Therapeutics called RHA 2, RHA 3 and RHA 4 has been available in Europe for over 5 years, and is now FDA approved for use in the United States.

Each day we constantly use our muscles of facial expression to squint, frown, smile, and more. The repetitive movements of these muscles of facial expression create dynamic wrinkles and folds in several areas of the face. The RHA® Collection is specifically designed to adapt to facial movement, providing a softer, natural look that is unchanged at rest or in motion.

The main difference between RHA 2, RHA 3, and RHA 4 is the amount of crosslinking between the hyaluronic acid molecules, which determines the strength versus flexibility of each product. Keeping this in mind, RHA 2 is best for vertical lip lines and lip augmentation and smile lines. RHA 3 is best for nasolabial folds (depressions on both sides of the nose and mouth) and downturned corners of the mouth. RHA 4 is best for deeper lines and folds in the lower face and to restore youthful contour of the temples, cheeks, and chin.

RHA Collection fillers are gradually broken down in the skin over an average of 6-12 months. Individual results may vary.

All of the RHA Collection fillers are already formulated with lidocaine to make the injection experience more comfortable. Ice packs, prescription-strength numbing cream, and/or nerve blocks are also available to decrease discomfort. Hyaluronic acid fillers have an excellent safety record in the hands of experienced, well-trained physicians. A benefit of using hyaluronic acid-based fillers is the availability of hyaluronidase (an anecdote, essentially), which can be injected into the skin and quickly breaks down the product. Most commonly, temporary mild swelling and bruising can occur. Consider reviewing our pre-treatment tips for ways to minimize the risk of bruising prior to your treatment.
